Thursday Afternoon Knitting/Crafting Group

For the last several years, a group of women have met at SUMC on Thursday afternoons to share a knitting fellowship.  Open to all community members, the group has worked on a variety of craft projects over the years.  Some knit, some crochet, some sew and quilt, some have worked on paper crafting.  We have had weaving demonstrations and dulcimer music.   A quilting class was held in the fall of 2016.   All skills and all skill levels are welcome.

The Thursday afternoon knitters and crocheters have created a variety of items over the last several years: someSarah Ayris 640x480 for personal use, others for gifts and a variety for various mission projects. Member Sarah Ayris has a passion for thanking and helping veterans and has been aware of the needs of the VA Hospital in Saginaw. In late fall she sent several fleece blankets to the Hospital. Since then she has been working on the beautiful afghans shown in the picture to share there also. Sarah would happily use any yarn donations to continue this project. Thanks, Sarah, for doing such a worthwhile project!

Crafter Janet Lieferman took a large bag of donated yarn of all colors and weights and made a wide assortment of hats, mittens, and scarfs which will be donated to the Shepherd Elementary School.

Currently crafters are working on a year-long project--an individual temperature scarf.  Each day, a row or two of a scarf is knit.  The color used depends on the day's temperature.  Imagine how beautiful this will be come next December.

You are welcome to join us in the SUMC llbrary from 3:30 to 5 p.m. each Thursday, except for the fourth Thursday (smorgasbord) to work on an individual project of your choice.   If you have questions, please contact the church office or Merrie Hammel.
